Yashomati maiya se bole Nandalala
Yashomati maiya se bole Nandalala
Radha kyu gori? Mai kyu kala?
Little Krishna asks mother Yashoda, "Why is Radha fair while I am dark?"
Boli musakati maiya, lalana ko bataya:
kali adhiyari adhi-rata me tu aya.
Mother Yashoda smiled n told little
Krishna, "You were born on a dark, stormy midnight. My beloved little
Krishna has a black flute. Hence he is dark"
Yashomati maiya se bole Nandalala:
Radha kyu gori? Mai kyu kala?
Little Krishna asks mother Yashoda, "Why is Radha fair while I am dark?"
Boli musakati maiya: suna, mere pyare,
gori-gori Radhika ke naina kajara re.
kale nainovali ne aisa jadu dala,
isi lie kala. Yashomati... .
Maa Yashoda tells little Lord Krishna he's dark because of the jadu of
the Kali Nainowali (the dark-eyed Radhika).
Krishna, being Consciousness personified, is ever enchanted with
Radha (who is material existence and shakti personified). Our
existence is filled with color, but all know that all colors combined
create black. In the same way, the shining Radha is the light that
reveals Consciousness to be one, solid, unchanging, beautiful color

Rama praises Lord Hanuman
Lord Rama, with tears in his eyes...
Bharat bhai Kapi se urin hum nahi
Lord Ram Returned from exile and is narrating the story of his exile to his brother Bharat ji .He was introducing everyone who helped him in conquering the war and when he went upto Hanumnji his eyes got wet and he said these very special words for Hanumaji
Kapi se Urin hum nahi Bharat bhai
kapi se urin hum nahi
bharat bhai kapi se urin hum nahi
Dear brother Bharat I can never overcome to be oblized by Kapi
("The ape" here for Hanumanji )
sau yojan maryad samudra ki
100 yojans (1yojan = 6-15 kilometers) skirts of ocean
ye kudi gayo chhan mahi
He jumped over in seconds
lanka jari siya (Sita) sudhi layo
Set fire in Lanka and brought the information of Siya's well being
par garv nahi man mahi
But he dont feel proud for all of this
shakti baan lagyo lakshman ke
Laxman was shot by shakti baan
hahakaar bhayo dal mahi
there was an upheavel in the crowd
dhaulagiri kar dhar le aayo
He carried the Dhaula mountain peak in his hands
bhor na hone paayi
before the dawn broke out
ahi ravan ki bhuja ukhadi
He pulled off the arms of Ahi Ravan
paithi gayo math mahi
jo bhaiya hanumat nahi hote
Oh brother! if Hanuman was not there
mohe ko lato jag mahi
who had brought me back in this world
Agya bhang kabahun nahi kinhi
He never became disobedient
jahan pathayo tahan jayi
whereever I sent Him He went there
Tulsidas pawansut mahima
Tulsidasji says that the glory of Pawansut (The son of WindGod)
prabhu nij mukh karat badhai
Lord appraises by his own mouth

Ramayan: Summary
Ram is the 7th incarnation of Vishnu and the central figure of the Ramayan story. The Ramayan is the very soul of India. It is a complete guide to God-realization, the path to which lies in righteousness. The ideals of man are beautifully portrayed in it. Everyone should emulate those ideals and grow into ideal human beings and ideal citizens.
Ram took birth to free the earth from the cruelty and sins of the demon King Ravana (Ravan). Ravana had practiced austerities in order to propitiate Shiva and Brahma, who had granted him immunity from being killed by gods, gandharvas or demons. One of the gods had to take on a human form in order to be able to defeat Ravana.
Ram was born as the first son of Dasharatha, king of Ayodhya. Ram's mother was Kausilya. Ram had three brothers : Bharata (Bharat) born from the second wife Kaikeyi, and Lakshmana (Lakshman) and Shatrughna born from the third wife Sumitra.
One day Saint Vishwamitra visited Ayodhya and asked Dashratha to send Ram and Lakshmana with him because the Yakshini (demon) Tarka - with her two sons Mareech and Subahu - were terrifying him and the other saints at his ashram. They were not letting them worship and meditate. Ram went with Lakshmana and Vishwamitra to kill Tarka. On the way to Saint Vishwamitra's ashram there was a dense forest. When they entered the forest Tarka came to kill them but Ram killed her and her son Subahu with a weapon given to him by Vishwamitra. Ram also shot an arrow at Mareech and threw him 100 yojan far away...
Later Ram went with Saint Vishwamitr to Mithila where the wise King Janak ruled. King Janak had organized a svayamvaraa (an acient custom wherein the bride chose her husband of her own accord from amongst a number of suitors). It was announced that whosoever will bend the bow of Lord Shiva will marry King Janak's daughter Sita. Sita was an incarnation of Lakshmi, the consort of Lord Vishnu. But none of the suitors was able to lift Lord Shiva's bow, except Ram. Ram lifted the bow with his one hand and bended it so hard that it even broke.
So Ram got married to Sita, and his brothers got happily married to Sita's sisters. After returning and living happily in Ayodhya the old King Dashrath decided that it was time to give his kingdom to his beloved son Ram. There Kaikeyi, the third and youngest wife of the King, claimed the throne for her son Bharat. A long time before the young Queen had saved the King's life and he had promised to fulfill her two wishes. Manthara, the crooked and evil-minded maid-servant of Kaikeyi influenced the queen to claim her wishes now in favor of her son and to request Dashrath to banish Ram from the kingdom for fourteen years, and to install Bharat on the throne instead. The King was shocked, his heart was broken, but he knew that truth is the highest Dharm, and that he had to fulfill his promise to his wife. So Ram went to exile happily, knowing that to obey and serve his father was the highest duty of a son.
After Ram left to the forest, Dashrath died from the pangs of separation from his beloved son Ram. Bharat went to the forest to meet his brother Ram and to request him to come back to Ayodhya. When Ram refused to return, in honor of the promise to his father, Bharat took Ram's "khadau" (wooden sandals) and placed them symbolically on Ayodhya's throne. Until his brother returned from the exile Bharat served the kingdom as a true and honest caretaker of Ram.
Once Surpnakha, the sister of Ravana, passed by the place where Ram was living. She saw Ram and became impressed by his beauty. She transformed herself into a beautiful lady and went to Ram and asked him to marry her. When Ram refused and told her he is already married to Sita, she became angry. Coming back to her original form she ran towards Sita to kill her. When Lakshman saw that he cut her nose and one ear. Surpnakha then send her brother Khardushan with fourteen thousand rakshasas to avenge her. But all were killed by Ram.
Surpnakha now sought vengeance through her older brother Ravana, but only got his interest by pointing out that the beautiful Sita would be a fitting wife for him. Ravana lured Ram and Lakshman away from Sita by sending an enchanted deer of extreme beauty and then took Sita to his kingdom of Lanka.
On the way, Jatayu, a vulture bird and old friend of Ram's father Dashrath, fought Ravan but was fatally wounded. He lived only long enough to tell Ram what had happened upon his return.
In Lanka, Ravana tried to threathen Sita into marrying him, but was rejected again and again. Meanwhile, Ram made an alliance with the monkey King Sugreeva, who had been exiled from his kingdom by his brother Bali. Ram helped Sugreeva to regain his kingdom and in return Sugreeva raised an army of monkeys and bears, led by Hanuman. When they reached the sea, Hanuman flew across.
In Lanka, Hanuman promised Sita that help would come soon. When he was then captured by the rakshasas, Ravana ordered them to set fire to Hanuman's tail, wrapping it with oily rags. But Hanuman increased the length of his tail so much that there seemed no end to it. He escaped and used his burning tail to set fire to all of Lanka.
Meanwhile, Ram's army had build a huge bridge between Lanka and the mainland. They crossed the ocean and attacked Ravana's army.
During the battle, Lakshmana was heavily wounded, but he was cured by a magic herb which Hanuman flew all the way to the Himalayas to obtain. Not finding the herb at first, Hanuman brought the entire mountain just to be sure.
Finally, all rakshasa generals were killed and the battle become a single combat between Ravana and Ram. Finally, Ram killed Ravana with a special weapon given to him by saint Agastya.
This was a moment of great rejoicing. Ram and Sita were finally crowned King and Queen of Ayodhya when they returned home

A Devotee's Prayer to Lord Narasimha
My faith is in Your lotus feet and the nails of Your toes, Lord Nrsimhadeva;
Please protect me.
My faith is in Your pillar-like legs and lotus petal-like chest, Lord
Nrsimhadeva;
Please direct me.
My faith is in Your arms and Your razor-sharp claws, Lord Nrsimhadeva;
Please destroy my obstacles.
My faith is in Your mane and roaring red mouth, Lord Nrsimhadeva;
Please vanquish my fears.
My faith is in Your gnashing teeth and Your burning golden eyes, Lord
Nrsimhadeva;
Please give me strength.
I am confused, Lord Nrsimhadeva;
I place myself beneath Your feet.
Please dispel my confusion.
I am sad, Lord Nrsimhadeva;
I beg You to stamp out my sadness.
I am frightened, Lord Nrsimahadeva;
I beg You to take me into Your lotus hands And destroy my fears with
Your all-powerful claws.
I am in illusion, Lord Nrsimhadeva;
Please let Your glaring effulgence
Destroy my illusions.
My dear Lord Nrsimhadeva, I am afraid;
I depend upon You, I take shelter of You,
Without You I cannot exist.
Let me take shelter under Your feet,
Protect me with Your slashing claws.
Only You can help me.
My faith lies only in You.

Shree Ram Shree Ram
-Composed by Tulsidas
The verse evokes a richly decorated, fully-limbed, handsome physical image of Ram; but the symbolism is, as always, only to create a focus on the deity, on Rama. The last couplet reminds us that the ultimate being, the Godhead, the joy of Mann (Mind or that element in us that desires and hesitates, thinks and meditates), the joy of Muni (wise), of Shankara (of devout, of godly beings), and so on, is within our own heart... or we ask of Rama to reside within, and save us from fears and vices. The aatma, the soul, the self (that goes beyond ego, body, knowledge gained through senses) is where the mighty deity is requested to reside. Perhaps the prayer will be realized only when the self is ready to receive the one desired, and hence it is useful to invoke him through song and symbol..

My all time favorite lullaby
Zu zu zu zu zu.....
Yashoda ka nandlala brij ka ujaala hai
Mere laal se to saara jag jhilmilaaye
Raat thandi thandi hawa gaake sulaaye
Bhor gulaabi palake chum ke jagaaye
Yashoda ka nandlala brij ka ujaala hai
Mere laal se to saara jag jhilmilaaye
Zu zu zu zu zu.....
Sote sote gehari nind mein mun kyun muskaaye
Puchho mujhase main jaanu isako ky asapana aahe
Jug jug se yeh laal hai apana
Har pal dekhe bas yahin sapana

Jab bhi janam le meri god mein aaye
Mere laal se toh saara jag jhilmilaaye
Yashoda ka nandlala brij ka ujaala hai
Mere laal se to saara jag jhilmilaaye
Zu zu zu zu zu.....
Meri ungali thaam ke jab yeh ghar aangan mein dole
Mere mann mein soyi soyi mamata aankhein khole
Chupake chupake mujhako taake
Jaise yeh mere mann mein jhaanke

Jabahin Draupadi ter lagaai, Deenaanaath laaj ab jaai.
When Draupadi sought your help by pleading, 'O Lord of the distressed! My honour is at stake!'
Turata hi basan bane Nandlala, badhyo chir bhe ari mukh kaalaa.
O Nandalala! You instantly supplied cloth, and the assembly members became ashen faced with disbelief.
Asa anaatha ke naath Kanhaiyaa, dubat bhanvar bachaavahi naiya
You are, O Kanhaiya, so great a guardian of the helpless orphan that you rescue every sinking boat from the whirlpool of life.
Sundardaas vaas Durvaasaa, karat vinay Prabhu pujahu aasaa
O Lord! Sundardas, an inmate of the hermitage of Durvasa, beseeches You to grant his wishes.
Naath sakal ur kumati nivaaro, chhamo vegi apraadh hamaaro.
O Lord! Dispel all ignorance from his heart and forgive him his faults.
Kholo pat ab darshan deeje, Bolo Krishna Kanhaiya ki jai
May you reveal yourself to him by opening the door of his heart. May we all sing 'Victory, victory to you, Lord Krishna, glory to Kanhaiya!'

Aarti of Sri RadhaKrishna
Aarti Priyatam Pyari ki, ki Banvari Nathwari ki.
I do the aarti of the divine couple, Radha Krishna.
Dunun sir kanak mukut chalkey,
Their heads are adorned with jeweled gold crowns,
Duhun shruti kundal bhal halkey,
Their ears are glorified by swaying ear-pendants,
Duhun drig prem sudha chalkey,
Their eyes are overflowing with the nectar of divine love,
Chaseeley bain, raseelay nain, gaseeley sain,
Their voices are pleasing, their eyes are loving, their glance is intoxicating.
Duhun mainan manhari ki, ki Banvari Nathvari ki.
Their beauty fascinates even the celestial god of beauty.
Aarti Priyatam Pyari ki, ki Banvari Nathwari ki.
I do the aarti of the divine couple, Radha Krishna..
Duhun drig chitvani pari vari,
The style of their glances is adorable,
Duhun lat latkani chabi nyari,
The fall of their curly hair is beautiful,
Duhun bhaun matkani ati pyari,
The playful movement of their eyebrows is lovable,
Rasan mukh pan, hasan muskan, dasan damakan,
Their lips are pinkish from the juice of betel leaves, they are smiling and laughing, their teeth are shining, and,
Duhun besar chabi nyari ki, ki Banvari Nathvari ki.
The movements they make when they talk to each other are enchanting.
Aarti Priyatam Pyari ki, ki Banvari Nathwari ki.
I do the aarti of the divine couple, Radha Krishna.
Ek ur peetambar paharey,
Krishn wears a shiny silk shawl called peetambar,
Ek ur neelambar laharey,
Radha is adorned with a beautiful blue sari,
Duhun ur lar motin chahrey,
Both are wearing sparkling pearl necklaces,
Kankanan khanak, kinkinin jhanak, noopuran bhanak,
The tinkling sound of their anklets, waistlets and bangles,
Duhun runjhun dhuni pyari ki, ki Banvari Nathvari ki.
Produces a soul-captivating resonant sound.
Aarti Priyatam Pyari ki, ki Banvari Nathwari ki.
I do the aarti of the divine couple, Radha Krishna.
Ek sir mor mukut rajey,
Krishn's peacock feather diadem is beautiful,
Ek sir choonari chabi chajey,
The blue veil adorning Radha is lovely,
Duhun sir tirchey bhal bhrajey,
The slanting of their heads towards each other is glorious.
Sang braj bal, Ladli Lal, banh gal dal,
While surrounded by the Gopis, and placing their arms around each others' neck,
Kripalu duhun drig chari ki, ki Banvari Nathvari ki.
Radha Krishna lovingly exchange glances with each other.
Aarti Priyatam Pyari ki, ki Banvari Nathwari ki.
I do the aarti of the divine couple, Radha Krishna.
Have a blessed day :)

Maiyya mori main nahin maakhan khayo...
In the Bal leelas (childhood pastimes) of Kanaiya, the leelas of Makhan (butter) is very popular among the child mischievous of Bal Krishna. Kanhaiya would go to the neighboring houses and steal the butter from their home. The Gopis would come complaining about the same to Ma Yashoda.
This bhajan has been written by Saint Surdas on this kid mischief of Shree Krishna. Ma Yashoda would get angry at the complaints and go to Kanaiya and ask him, "What have you done?" "Look all the Gopis have come with the complaints against you!"
Kanaiya would reply with guilelessness and smiling face that, "Maiyaa don't listen to them, they are all liar." "They are finding ways to have a glimpse of Me." And things would end there.
But today, Kanaiya stole the butter from His own house and Mother saw it. Mother suddenly asked Him, beta (son) have you eaten the butter. On being asked it fell out of Kanaiyas mouth Main Nahi Makhan Khayo, Maiya mori main nahin Makhan khayao (I have not eaten butter, I have not eaten butter my Mother) and the bhajan progress as the dialogue between Bal Krishna and Ma Yashoda.
Maiyya mori main nahin maakhan khayo...
Maiya mori-eeee
Maiya mori, maiya mori
Maiya mori, maiya mori
Main nahin makhan khayo
Main nahin makhan khayo
Maiya mori
Main nahin makhan khayo
bhor bhayo gaiyan ke pache madhuban mohe pathayo
maiya mori mai nahi makhan khayo
I've been out in Madhuban forest looking after the cows since the morning.
Oh mother, it wasn't me who ate the butter!
cāra pahara vaḿśī vaṭa bhaṭakyo
sanjh pare ghar ayo, maiya mori mai nahi makhan khayo
I was out the whole day playing the flute and roaming in the forest;
i only came back in the evening.
Oh mother, it wasn't me who ate the butter!
main balak baiyan ko choto, cheeko kisi vidhi payo
maiya mori mai nahi makhan khayo
I am a young child, i have small arms, how could i reach the butter pot up there?
Oh mother, it wasn't me who ate the butter!
gwaal baal sab bair pare haiN, barbas mooh laptayo
maiya mori mai nahi makhan khayo
All my friends are jealous of me, they forcibly rubbed butter all over my face.
Oh mother, it wasn't me who ate the butter!
tu janni mann ki ati bhori inke kahe patichayo
maiya mori mai nahi makhan khayo
You're too innocent, you believe these friends of mine
Oh mother, it wasn't me who ate the butter!
le le apni lakut kamariya, bahut hi naach nachaiyo
maiya mori mai nahi makhan khayo
Take your stick and your blanket, you're making me dance around a lot
oh mother, it wasn't me who ate the butter!
jiye tere kachu bheda upaj hai, jaani paraayo aayo
maiya mori mai nahi makhan khayo
It seems that you don't love me as much as you should (because i am not your biological son like Balarama)
Oh mother, it wasn't me who ate the butter!
suradasa tab vihasi yasoda, le ura kaṇṭha lagāyo
Kanhaiya, tai nahi makhan khayo
(On being reminded that she is a foster mother), Yashoda gently smiles, gives Krishna a hug, and says, "Kanhaiya, it wasn't you who ate the butter"
Maiya mori, maine hi makhan khayo
(our hero finally confesses:) Oh mother, it was me who ate the butter!
*Bhagwad Purana" is the most important of these in as much as it contains an account of Lord Krishna's childhood in one of its chapters. (The Mahabharata does not talk about Krishna's childhood.) Based on the Krishna chapter in the Bhagawad Purana, the hindi poet Soordas wrote several poems about Lord Krishna's childhood, one of which i particularly liked. It's called "Maiya Mori mai nahi makhan khayo" [oh mother, it wasn't me who ate the butter].
